It’s a weakness. I know. But I rarely bash Disney. I’m one of those die-hard fans who rarely have anything negative to say about Walt Disney World, products, advertising, television or movies.
Rarely.
But ask me for my honest opinion? I’ll give it. Warts and all.
Disney Dining Plan?
Ehhh. In my honest opinion, I think you’d have to take the time and effort to order the most expensive thing on the menu and max out your snack credits for it to be a true “deal.” On the one hand, my husband likes to take all-inclusive vacations. If you do the dining plan and pay for tickets and lodging ahead of time? Done, done and done. And on the other hand, at certain ages, the dining plan can be a rip-off for the younger members of your party. But when it’s offered for “free,” we will partake. The bottom line is – Do your homework. Scan menus online, rough out a budget and see if it will benefit your family.
Staying On Property?
If you will be visiting the parks for more than 2 days, I think it’s worth it. You are immersed in the magic. Transportation is taken care of. The pools are fantastic. And you can take advantage of extra magic hours. However, if you’re in the Orlando area for more than just Disney World? You can probably find comfortable, cheaper lodging. I will say this. We’ve done it both ways. Off property and on. I highly, highly, highly recommend staying at a Walt Disney World resort. The service and accommodations are exceptional.
Customer Service?
For the most part, excellent. But for a long time Disney goer, like me, not as good as it was. It used to be that every single Cast Member (that’s what Disney employees are called) gave impeccable, amazing service. Unparalleled. Incomparable. It was rare that you came across someone who was just going through the motions. But, in the past 10 years or so, service has slid a bit. Luckily, it has only slid a bit. Now, you will come across the occasional I’m-just-here-for-the-paycheck employee. But you will only encounter this kind of person a few times during your trip. And for as “flawed” as Disney’s customer service has become, it is still head and shoulders above the other area amusement parks in the area.
Over-priced?
There was much noise across the internet over the recent $4 increase in park tickets. Are they expensive? Yes. But. They’re still $30 cheaper than that other theme park down the street. I’ve been to both. For the money, atmosphere and entertainment value? I’d choose Disney World over the other park. Every. Single. Time.
Have a question of your own to ask me? Please. Feel free. I may be a Disney-Nut. But I cannot lie.
