What NOT To Pack For Your Upcoming Disney Trip: The Anti-Packing List

what not to pack for Walt Disney World

Knowing what not to pack can be half the battle. Especially during this whirlwind countdown to your next Disney Vacation. But I have a confession to make.

Hi. I’m Mouseterplanner. And I’m an over-packer.

(They say admitting the problem is the first step. So there. I’ve said it!)

And coming from an over-packer, I can save you some time and space (which means more room for souvenirs!)

Hairdryer

Unless you’re incredibly attached to your own, it has become commonplace to have a hairdryer in every resort room.

Beach Towels

No need to bring your own or bring towels from your room. There are towels at every resort pool. Use ’em there. Leave ’em there. No muss. No fuss. You can also use resort pool towels to take with you to Disney’s two water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach.

Whatever you need, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon have got you covered!
Bug Spray

With three kids and following a school schedule for most of our trips, we tend to be at Walt Disney World during warm, humid and buggy times of the year. And we always marvel at how bug-free our vacations are. Disney does a fantastic job of keeping the bugs at bay!

Coolers

There are mini-fridges in the resort rooms for your morning yogurt or bottled water.

Iron

Just about any resort room has an iron and an ironing board in your room. My favorite trick is to bring a travel-size spray bottle of Downey’s Wrinkle Releaser. Great in a pinch.

If you feel the need to “dress up” a polo and shorts or sundress will do. No need to dress for the ball!
Fancy Clothes

Unless you’re dining at Victoria and Albert’s, Walt Disney World knows that they are serving tourists. There are only a scant few restaurants with a dress code. Many items can carry you through the entire day, no matter what your schedule. Capris and skorts for women. Collared athletic shirt for men. If you’re unsure, slip on a casual sundress for women or a fresh collared polo for men (with shorts, of course) and you’ll be good to go for dinner!

Shoes

Too many pairs, that is. I’m no Imelda Marcos but I DO tend to overpack when it comes to shoes. But really, all you need is one pair of athletic shoes (already worn-in, of course), a pair of flip-flops for the pool and a versatile pair of sandals for going out to dinner. Three pairs. Max.

Shampoo, conditioner, and lotion.

All provided for you. Courtesy of Mickey Mouse!

Umbrella

Yes, it is Florida, complete with the afternoon rain shower. But umbrellas are cumbersome and dangerous. Go to the dollar store or even Target and pick up some cheap rain ponchos. Compact in your backpack and once you have it on, your hands are free!

Your Favorite Guidebook

That’s right. Leave it at home. You can study before you go. There are plenty of apps for your phone that will do the trick. My favorites are My Disney Experience and Undercover Tourist.

Cash

Plan ahead. Purchase Disney gift cards at Costco or Target (with your Red Card) for a discount. Or, if you’re staying at a Disney resort all you’ll need in the parks is your Magic Band. Your credit card is already linked to your account.

So, now you know what not to pack. There are, however, some things that are essential for your Disney vacation. That’s when you make your list of “must bring” items. And if you’re a list person, like me, go here for a great list of packing lists so you never forget the essentials!
