If you’ve ever been on a Disney Cruise you know all about the long corridors with cute, little stateroom doors that all look exactly alike. Exactly. Except for one little digit on the stateroom number.
And that tiny little number can make a big difference when your toddler is hopping up and down, having to go – NOW! – and you’re fiddling with the stateroom key, only to find you’ve been trying to open the wrong door.
Oops.
Luckily, I was advised by one of my dear readers, to make that little extra purchase and splurge (and it wasn’t a big splurge!) on a door magnet to identify our room. Best “investment” ever.
I know, I know. Remembering a 4 digit room number is no big deal. But when you’re tired, overwhelmed, excited or just have to go – NOW! – it’s nice to glance up, look for a familiar face (in our case!) and open the right door.
There is, however, a catch. You may only use magnets to decorate your doors. And if you’re a lucky concierge guest on the Dream or Fantasy ships, those stateroom doors are made of wood. No adhesive (tape, glue) of any kind is allowed. And that goes for over the door hangers, too.
Stick with magnets and you’ll be fine.
There are dozens and dozens of shops on Etsy that will create your very own personalized door magnet. Our favorite shop is Are We There Yet Designs.
Even The Disney Store has a (limited) selection of door magnets.
And if you’re crafty (sadly, I’m not), there are loads of ideas on Pinterest.
And, if you’re late to the party, there is always a collection of stateroom door magnets for purchase in many of the cruise ship gift shops.
You can even find magnets that add a little extra to your celebration…
The possibilities are endless. Magnetic dry erase boards to leave messages to friends and family if you’re travelling with a large group. Christmas decorations for your holiday cruise. Or a simple celebration of your favorite characters.
Make your cruise extra special! And feel free to share your ideas, creations and door décor!
