A panicked reader asked for confirmation of the rumor she had heard about Disney “closing down” Hollywood Studios. Now, I can easily see where this panic comes from. In recent months, Disney has announced all kinds of changes scheduled to take place at their movie centered theme park. Some surprising. Some not so surprising. But with the amount of information floating around the internet waves, it’s easy to turn hype into hoax.
In 2014, American Idol Experience, Backlot Tour, American Film Institute Showcase and Legend of Jack Sparrow all permanently closed. At the 2015 shareholders meeting, more announcements were made, including an unofficial acknowledgement that the name of the park will also change. So far this year we have lost The Magic of Disney Animation, Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream and the iconic Sorcerer’s Hat. And January 3, 2016 will be your last chance to view The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights located on the Streets of America.
A $3 billion dollar expansion was formerly announced in July. Rumors about expanding the Star Wars theme within the park are now confirmed and fans can expect to see a 14-acre expansion dedicated to Star Wars themed shops and attractions. Toy Story will also gain a more prominent presence with it’s own interactive play area, rides and retail space. Guests will be shrunk down to toy size and play in Andy’s 11-acre backyard. A family friendly roller coaster and an alien flying saucer ride are just two of the upcoming attractions.
Yes, it’s easy to believe that Disney may be closing their Hollywood Studio theme park. With a new name and a re-structuring of almost 25 -cres, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will certainly be all-new, all-improved and a must-see for any Disney fan.
And this fan can’t wait!
