To make way for the new Star Wars Land that we talked about yesterday, a popular Walt Disney World holiday tradition is enjoying its last and final year: The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights.
Disney announced today that The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights will be ending after a 20 year run on January 3, 2016. In order to make room for the new Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land expansions, this popular holiday tradition must end. There are no plans to relocate this spectacular display, much to the disappointment of fans.
Jennings Osborne of Little Rock, Arkansas created this display in his hometown. Adding more and more lights every year, it quickly got out of hand. Neighbors complained. He was taken to court. And Disney heard of his predicament and asked if he’d like to re-create his light display at one of their theme parks. A big Disney fan, Osborne jumped at the opportunity to create a wonderland of lights for even more people to enjoy. He never took a dime for his creation and 5,000,000 lights later it’s an incredible musical lit display that our family adores.
This year the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights will be available for viewing from November 6, 2015 – January 3, 2016. Because of its final year, Disney will be offering special dessert party and dinner receptions overlooking the lights to enhance your experience. Reservations will be open on September 16, 2015 so mark your calendars. This is a popular and beloved Disney tradition. With it being its last year, these are sure to be sell-out events.
I am so sad to see this holiday tradition leaving the Disney Parks. Our family counts this experience as one of our most treasured. Fingers crossed that we can experience it one more time before Disney pulls the plug.
