Star Wars fan (my entire family) or not (me), Star Wars Weekends are a must-see event at least once in your Walt Disney World vacationing experiences. Due to the popularity of Star Wars Weekends, a number of changes are taking place. Read on to make the most of your visit.
- They’ve expanded the dates! Now offered Friday through Sunday, from May 16 – June 15, the weekends are packed with Star Wars specific events. As the name implies, these special events only take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If you’re visiting Monday-Thursday as well, you can still experience Disney’s Hollywood Studios without the Star Wars hoopla and theoretically, smaller crowds. Just plan your days accordingly.
- Besides the special parades and shows throughout the park, a fireworks display exclusive to Star Wars Weekends, Symphony in the Stars, has been added.
- Be prepared to bump into a celebrity or two. Autographs and photo opportunities abound during the weekend but be prepared to wait. Even with the introduction of the free FastPass perk for autographs, guests have been known to get in line as early as 6am to guarantee their spot. (Say hi to my family if you see them. I’ll be sleeping in!)
- I always recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before any park opens and that is no exception for this event at Hollywood Studios. For obvious reasons, you can get more done in those first few hours of the morning. But the special storming of the park by the Storm troopers is not to be missed!
- Be on the lookout for question and answer sessions with the characters and actors, trivia contests for the kids and Jedi training lessons.
- Star Wars specific souvenirs will be aplenty, but keep you eye out for limited edition items. Check out this article for more info!
